The STFC School on Data Intensive Science, organised by LIV.DAT, will take place at the University of Liverpool. From 12-16 October 2020 the Foresight Centre, a beautiful Grade II listed building on campus, will be centre of this Data Intensive School.

During this week, the students will be provided with a grounding in modern computation and some of the key techniques used in machine learning and large data management. It will provide numerous direct links to the LIV.DAT research activities, thereby embedding cutting-edge research into the School programme. The School will also provide bespoke training in project management with a focus on the particular challenges found in the IT sector and in international collaborations. This will be complemented by careers sessions where external speakers present career pathways and provide careers advice. The event consists of hands-on workshops, plenary talks, group discussions and evening events.

The week will kick-off with a social event on the Sunday evening to give everyone the opportunity to meet other delegates in an informal setting. To encourage participation, overnight stay is included this night for anyone booking accommodation.

In light of the current situation around Covid-19, LIV.DAT closely monitors the situation for developments and requirements for organising events like these. The School will take place with current guidelines in place such as social distancing and a strict hygiene regime. However, as the developments around Covid-19 are outside our control, organised sessions may change and/or may be provided online. This information will be communicated to any registered participants as well as on the event’s website.

The School is free to attend for STFC-funded PhD students, other students are welcome to attend. Several scholarships for non-STFC funded early stage researchers will be available.

More information about the School and how to register can be found here. The deadline for registration is 31 July 2020.
