The University of Seville and Centro Nacional de Aceleradores (CNA) jointly hosted a 3-day (September 4th-6th 2019) OMA international conference in Seville, based around Medical Accelerators and Particle Therapy. LIV.DAT student Selina Dhinsey had the opportunity to attend after obtaining a scholarship place, allowing her to engage in the field’s current research.

Talks were contributed from researchers and PhD students, with each session opening with an invited talk from leading experts, including Yves Jongen from IBA and Antonio Lallena from Universidad de Granada, on Monte Carlo Dosimetry.
Following the first full day of presentations, delegates had the opportunity to attend a local public lecture on the therapeutic applications of particle therapy for cancer treatment.

On Thursday a poster session was held in which Selina was able to present her research, facilitating discussions and a networking opportunity. The day concluded with a rooftop conference dinner, overlooking the beautiful city centre of Seville.
Friday’s session was more focused around 4D patient monitoring and concluded the conference, where everyone departed after an enjoyable, insightful and sun-filled few days.
