About us

The Institute links a range of research areas together in order to support local organisations and maximise economic growth.

The Institute collaborates with, and supports a range of local organisations from a wide range of sectors, maximising opportunities for innovation and contributing to economic growth, advancing sustainability and enhancing the quality of life.

IDEAS will help mould the digital skills of the future, through a diffusion of research and knowledge exchange between academia and industry.

This activity is supported by the University of Liverpool’s Strategy 2026, which builds upon our strengths in world leading research and impact activities.

IDEAS is the parent institute of the Digital Innovation Facility (DIF) and Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC). For over thirteen years the VEC has been the UK’s leading centre for knowledge exchange in the virtual and digital engineering. Together, IDEAS and VEC will apply new research and methodologies with the aim of accelerating business growth through the adoption of digital technology and industrial digitalisation.

The Institute will leverage the University's significant research excellence base and will be led by Executive Director, Andrew Levers.
