Mona has a PhD in BioMedical Engineering on the topic of " Liver tissue engineering", (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel).
After her PhD Mona enrolled as a postdoctoral fellow at NIAMS, NIH, Maryland, USA. During this time, she carried out some of the first research on the field of Sirt1 and cartilage biology.
In 2009, Mona began a faculty appointment at Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a Lecturer; promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2013 and Associate Professor in 2017.
