Rudi Fortson KC offers a personal perspective regarding the use of AI in the legal profession. He does not see AI as an existential threat, but that there will 'winners' and 'losers' within various sectors, including the legal professional (for example, in the provision of certain legal services such as drafting wills. leases, contracts, and giving legal advice in certain cases). There is a need for vigilance in respect of procedural safeguards, human rights, fact-checking / validation, admissibility of evidence, surveillance techniques, the use of digital material, and the use of digitalised material; the role of regulators (e.g. the Forensic Science Regulator; Information Commissioner's Office); disclosure of material (what should be disclosed to parties in litigation criminal cases, and how?)
