Work Experience Interns to deliver and develop materials for the Central Teaching Laboratory Work Experience Programme.

Applications are invited from undergraduate students who are studying for Physical and Environmental Science degrees at the University of Liverpool who would like to help deliver work experience activities and co-create science outreach materials for a work experience programme.

As part of the CTL’s outreach programme, we are looking to formalise work experience for post-GCSE pupils. Our intention is to develop a structured programme of activities that reflect the varied work conducted in the CTL. The programme of activities needs to reflect the different working environments, technical and academic roles and the wide range of disciplines that share the space.

We are looking for three enthusiastic undergraduate students to work alongside the Academic and Technical team from the end of June to mid-July to help deliver a work experience programme to two sets of young people. The interns will evaluate the current programme, provide recommendations and develop new activities. The placement outcomes will include supervising young people to complete technical and scientific tasks in a safe manner, supporting their learning, evaluating the current work experience provision and working with a wide range of staff to prepare a new work experience programme (e.g. online materials).

There are three positions to be filled and are expected to start Wednesday 26th June and last up to 3 weeks.

Due to the nature of the placement, it will be essential for the candidates to undertake Health and Safety and safeguarding training at the start of the placement.

The successful applicants will be supervised by the CTL Academic and Technical team.

Applications

Students are asked to submit a CV and a letter of application outlining the reason you’d like to do the placement and what skills/experience you could bring to it. Outreach, communication or teaching experience is ideal but not essential.

For further details and to submit your application, please contact Dr Cate Cropper (ccropper@liverpool.ac.uk). Applicants may be requested to attend a short interview in the Central Teaching Laboratory during the week beginning 29th April 2018.

Deadline for applications is Friday 26th April 2018.
