Career Coaches outside Career Studio

The UK's first peer to peer employability space

Our pioneering approach to employability sets us apart!

Our approach

In 2018, we opened the UK's first peer-to-peer employability space, the Career Studio. This sparked a major change in the way we deliver employability at the University of Liverpool, with students at its heart.

The face-to-face element of our service is conducted by Career Coaches in the Career Studio, meaning our ability to embed employability across programmes is significantly enhanced. We forge meaningful relationships with academic departments and we influence from the beginning - from curriculum design stages right through to final year and graduate work. Our faculty teams are almost exclusively focused on curriculum developments and work together across the faculties enabling a holistic approach.

Our approach strikes the perfect balance between on-demand peer support and in-curricular employability enriched learning.  Our offer is scalable and consistent, and we work together as a team of experts to give students the support, experience, and skills they need to succeed.

Peer-to-peer

The Career Studio is 'A space led by students, for students, empowered by careers experts'. Our Career Coaches are fully trained to help students explore options, connect with employers, and successfully apply to a wide range of opportunities.

Our peer-led model not only gives students the opportunity to explore, connect and apply on-demand in a collaborative, familiar, and accessible space, it is also proven to reduce anxiety and increase levels of wider university integration. Our peer-to-peer model is well established and helps move our students along their employability journey.

Career co-exploration

We actively encourage students to look critically at skills and experiences and how they relate to ambitions. Regardless of career readiness stage, we work with students to co-explore career paths, employability enhancing opportunities, and options for studying and working abroad.

Co-exploration enables our Career Coaches to work with students as peers not only to identify values and interests but also to help students get the skills and experience they need to apply successfully to a variety of roles and opportunities.
