University of Bologna, Italy

Bologna is the capital and largest city of the Emilia ­Romagna region in Northern Italy. The city has a humid subtropical climate with warm summers and icy winters. Being declared the European capital of culture in 2010 and the UNESCO city of music in 2006, Bologna is an important cultural and artistic centre with two intriguing halves. One side being hard­working, high­ tech and super­rich. The other half is Bolshie, politically edgy and gothic.

Founded in 1088, the University of Bologna is the oldest university in the world as well as one of the leading academic institutions in Italy and Europe. Bologna is ranked as the 154th best university in the world according to the QS World

University Rankings. It currently has around 80,000 students and over 2,900 academic staff members in its eleven schools and 33 departments. Notable alumni include three Nobel Prize winners, the founder of the discipline of toxicology and the formulator of the heliocentric universal model.
