Summary

William Vaughan Edmunds (b 1855 Beaufort), son of a blacksmith, worked as a mechanic and coalminer. He worked in Ebbw Vale and Rhondda before moving to the Pontypool area. He married Julia Taylor (née Daw b Enford Wilts) in 1880 after her first husband had died and they lived in the Abersychan area.

They had several children together and David Thomas Edmunds was born 1881 and by 1901 he was lodging with the Harris family in Llanhilleth and working as a coalminer. He married Annie Harris from that family in 1903.

They continued to share a house with the Harris family, moving to Cefn Forest. Here Sally, Olive, William (died young), David and Lottie were born. They moved to Tir y Berth. David served in France in WW I and when his wife, Annie, was ill, he returned on compassionate leave. She died in June 1918

David was transferred to home service. He was unable to cope with his family and his subsequent whereabouts were not known. His children were fostered locally: Olive with the Britton family of Fleur de Lys.
