Summary

Joseph Harris was employed at an Iron Works near Caerleon. His son Edward Harris (working as a labourer) married Sarah Jenkins (working in a hotel in Newport, born Hoarwithy in Herefordshire) in 1884. They moved to Cadoxton (near Barry) and subsequently to Llanhilleth where Edward worked as a coal miner.

Edward and Sarah had 7 children by 1901, among them Phil, Ede and Sarah Ann (Annie b 1887). David Thomas Edmunds (b 1881) was lodging with the family and working as a coalminer. He married Annie Harris from that family in 1903.

David and Annie continued to share a house with the Harris family, moving to Cefn Forest. Here Sally, Olive, William (died young), David and Lottie were born. They moved to Tir y Berth. David served in WW I and when his wife, Annie, died of TB (possibly after childbirth) in June 1918, he returned on compassionate leave.

David was unable to cope and his subsequent whereabouts are not fully known. His children were fostered locally: Olive with the Britton family of Fleur de Lys.
