About
For over 25 years I have conducted cutting-edge research applying mathematical techniques to solve challenging real-world problems.
I am a member of the Signal Processing Group. I have expertise in a broad range of mathematical techniques, most notably Bayesian inference, information theory, data fusion, target tracking, sensor management, dynamic optimisation, pattern recognition, time-series analysis, machine learning, anomaly detection, game theory, data mining, and non-parametric statistics. I hold B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics, am a Chartered Mathematician, and am a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (FIMA).
I have co-authored over 100 scientific publications. These include 3 books, 15 journal papers (in leading international journals), over 20 conference papers, and over 80 technical reports.
Both as a student and during my career have been the recipient of numerous prizes, awards, and distinctions. These are as follows:
2021 - Best Paper Award (first runner-up; 24th IEEE International Conference on Information Fusion, Sun City, South Africa).
2011 - IEEE M. Barry Carlton Award (runner-up; best article to appear in IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, volume 44, 2008).
2006 - Plenary Speaker (9th IEEE International Conference on Information Fusion, Florence, Italy).
2005 - Best Paper Award (winner; 8th IEEE International Conference on Information Fusion, Philadelphia, USA).
2004 - John Benjamin Memorial Prize (shortlisted; The John Benjamin Memorial Prize Fund, registered charity 327965).
1992 - Institute of Mathematics and its Application Outstanding Student Award (winner; best performance in the final year of B.Sc. degree, University of Manchester).
1992 - M. S. Bartlett Prize in Statistics (winner; best performance in final year statistical modules of B.Sc. degree, University of Manchester).
1991 - Dalton Mathematical Scholarship (winner; best performance in 2nd year of B.Sc. degree, University of Manchester).
