Personal Statement

I am a Lecturer within the Department of Psychology. My research interests concern self-regulation – how people direct their thoughts, feelings, and actions to achieve their goals. My particular interests are emotion regulation - the overarching goals of my research are to increasing peoples’ capacity to regulate their emotions and behaviours to improve their mental and physical wellbeing. In particular my research currently focuses on:

Instrumental Emotion Regulation - This research aims to investigate the emotions people (children and adults) pursue and regulate in various contexts, and whether these emotion goals are shaped by individual differences.

Emotion Regulation & Wellbeing - Examines the impact of emotional regulation interventions on health behaviours. Another line of research is concerned with protective factors (e.g., emotion regulation, nature exposure) influencing mental health problems in various populations.
