Our ERC-funded liquid argon particle detector employing a game-changing photographic readout technology (ARIADNE - ARgon ImAging DetectioN chambEr) is getting closer to construction! This is a 1 ton two phase liquid argon detector employing thick electron gas multipliers (THGEMs) and electron-multiplying charge-coupled device (EMCCD) camera readout.

The group led by Dr Mavrokoridis have already provided a first demonstration of the potential of this technology to provide excellent tracking reconstruction by photographing cosmic muons; they are now very excited to be so close to the further maturation and scale-up of this approach. The design is being finalised and assembly is set to commence shortly, bringing ARIADNE into an exciting new phase.

The group webpage provides further information about the experiment.
