About

Will joined the department as a Lecturer in Sociology in 2023, having previously held the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham. He has held postdoctoral roles at the University of Liverpool and the University of Manchester, and was also a Visiting Fellow at the University of Latvia (Riga). He completed his PhD at the University of Manchester, based in the Cathie Marsh Institute and the Centre on Dynamics of Ethnicity (CoDE). His doctoral research examined new geographies of ethnic diversity in Britain, focusing on the residential geographies of Polish migrants.

His work has been published in journals including the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Identities, and Health & Place. He also co-authored the book State of the Nation, which examines ethnic and migrant inequalities in the UK using empirical data. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked in international development and contributed to projects in India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.

His expertise spans asylum and refugee research, migration from Central and Eastern Europe, critical whiteness scholarship, and mixed and participatory methods.

Will is enthusiastic about collaborating on and supervising projects that align with the following themes:

1) Racialisation and migration
2) Ethnic inequalities in housing
3) Participatory and trauma-informed methods with migrant communities
4) Asylum and statelessness
