My teaching focuses on Shakespeare and other Renaissance dramatists. In my research, I specialise in the representation of childhood in Renaissance Drama and I am particularly interested in Shakespearean performance histories and the children's acting companies of sixteenth and seventeenth century London. My first monograph, 'Shakespeare's Boys: A Cultural History', was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2014. My current and recent projects involve comparative study of Jacobean child acting troupes and late-Victorian children's opera companies, the child acting prodigies of the long eighteenth century, and public engagement work bringing the worlds of historical child performers to life through contemporary youth theatre.
