About
I qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon from the University of Bristol in 2011, having also undertaken an intercalated bachelors degree in Veterinary Conservation Medicine at Liverpool. I have a background as a Clinical Vet, having worked in charity, not for profit and private practice. In 2019, I gained both a General Practitioner Certificate and Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. In 2021 I completed a one year MPhil in Musculoskeletal Biology at the University of Liverpool, funded by BSAVA PetSavers. My thesis focused on identifying metabolomic biomarkers of meniscal injury in dogs with cranial cruciate ligament disease. In 2021, I took up a post as a Doctoral Student at Liverpool. My PhD focuses on identifying biomarkers of ageing in a longitudinal prospective cohort study of ageing in pet cats - the Cat Prospective Ageing and Welfare Study, which is funded by Royal Canin. These include physiological, biochemical, haematology and metabolomic and lipidomic biomarkers related to ageing in cats. I am currently a Research Assistant at the University of Liverpool whilst completing my PhD, continuing my work with the Cat Prospective Ageing and Welfare Study. I also work as a veterinary surgeon for the RSPCA.
My interests include evidence based veterinary medicine, ageing science - both how to improve the welfare of ageing companion animals, companion animals as an informative model for ageing science, and biomarkers of ageing, as well as shelter medicine and research into improving outcomes in the rehoming of unowned cats and dogs.
