OMA introduced to CERN’s High-School Programme

Anna Vnuchenko was invited to give an outreach talk at the Ukrainian Teacher Programme which took place from 7-13 April 2019 at CERN. This event is part of CERN's Annual International High-School Programme. Lectures, on-site visits, exhibitions, and hands-on workshops introduced participants to cutting-edge particle physics and their applications.

Anna, OMA Fellow based at the CSIC-IFIC, is originally from Ukraine and obtained her first diploma as a physics teacher. This was an excellent opportunity for her to present research work to  enthusiastic students.

She gave a review of existing accelerators, presented different method of treatment and advantages and disadvantages of proton and ion therapy compared to photon radiotherapy and gave an overview of the most recent developments in accelerator technology. The audience showed high interest in the topic. The participants will go back to the Ukraine as ambassadors, who pass on the subject to our next generation of physicists, engineers, IT specialists.
