The module will explore the relationship between music and place from various perspectives. We will consider, for example, the notion of a music city and a local scene and sound; the contribution of music and the music industries to the image, development and everyday life of cities; and how cities are represented through song and music film. We will explore how people engage with material places of live music performance and how music is related to landscape. We will investigate music’s contribution to local identities and to human travel, tourism and migration. While key points will be illustrated through case studies on different kinds of places, throughout the module there will be a particular focus on Liverpool. |
