Aims |
|
Provide students with an introduction to music recording, production, management and project planning practices within a real-world record company environment. Encourage creativity and entrepreneurship in students' own creative practice. Encourage team-work, problem-solving and resilience skills. Develop ‘real-world’ music industries employability skills. |
Learning Outcomes |

Syllabus |
|
Topics will include: artists & repertoire (A&R) work, artist management, music recording, production and studio management, project planning and consideration of audio (and audio-visual) cultures and contexts. Students will be expected to apply these issues and approaches to their work on the label, working independently and as part of a team. The course may also include guest talks from practitioners within the field. |
Teaching and Learning Strategies |

Teaching Method 1 - Lecture Teaching Method 2 - Seminar Teaching Method 3 – Studio work Self-directed learning: Self-directed learning hours are spent undertaking class reading and preparing project materials. Notes: Authentic assessment will be used throughout this module. Students will have an opportunity to complete practical work through the album release assessment and then have an opportunity to reflect on
their professional practice through the second assessment. The majority of teaching will be delivered face to face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience. |
