Aims

Provide students with an introduction to promotion, marketing and distribution practices within contemporary music industries.
Encourage creativity and entrepreneurship in students' own creative practice.
Encourage team-work, problem-solving and resilience skills.
Develop ‘real-world’ music industries employability skills.


Learning Outcomes

Syllabus

 

Topics will include: contemporary music industries promotion, marketing and distribution practices; developing professional practice and networks; retail environments; audio (and audio-visual) cultures and contexts.
Students will be expected to apply these issues and approaches to their work on the label, working independently and as part of a team.
The course will also include guest talks from practitioners within the field.

Description: Lectures introduce core concepts and material. Over 12 weeks.

Description: Seminars will be based around the discussion of weekly reading and provide further discussion of key themes. Over 12 weeks.
