Aims |

•To acquire key mathematics-specific computer skills. |
Learning Outcomes |

(LO1) Ability to tackle project work, including writing up of reports detailing their solutions to problems. |

(LO2) Competence in the use of computers to create documents containing formulae, tables, plots and references. |

(LO3) Competence in the use of mathematical software packages such as Maple and Matlab to manipulate mathematical expressions and to solve simple problems. |

(LO4) Ability to better understand the mathematical topics covered, through direct experimentation with the computer. |

Syllabus |
|
Weeks 1-6: Introduction to MWS and University of Liverpool electronic resources. Week 7: Workshop to develop team work skills. Weeks 8-12: Group project work in different areas using mathematical software packages for investigation and for presentation of the results. |
