Session 2019-20 | Level 7 FHEQ | First Semester | 15 |
Aims |
Provides the students with the knowledge, skills and competences to incorporate computational design thinking in an Architectural design project. Provides the students with the opportunity to understand the principles of various creative and generative design strategies in contemporary architectural practice; through reflection-in-action. Provides the students with the opportunity to develop hands-on and practical experience to explore the impact of generative design media on the design products and processes. |
Learning Outcomes |
(LO1) Demonstrate a novel understanding of embedding computational design thinking in an Architectural design project. |
(LO2) Demonstrate a critical understanding of how to select and apply appropriate design strategies and techniques to generate, represent and communicate innovative architectural design solutions. |
(LO3) Critically appraise the limitations and opportunities in embedding generative design thinking in response to spatial, social, environmental and material investigations in Architecture. |
(S1) Critical thinking and problem solving - Creative thinking. |
(S2) Improving own learning/performance - Reflective practice. |
(S3) Communication (oral, written and visual) - Communicating for audience. |
(S4) Critical thinking and problem solving - Synthesis. |
(S5) Ability to communicate design solutions and concepts in a professional manner. |
Syllabus |
Design Brief Workshops and Tutorials. Interim Submission Workshops and Tutorials. Project Submission and Final Presentations. |
Teaching and Learning Strategies |
Teaching Method 1 - Tutorial Teaching Method 2 - Workshop Self-Directed Learning Description: Students will be expected to manage their individual learning through reflection-in-action during practical design exercises, self-reading, online-skill training, and research. Students will be guided to use online software training resources to develop their skills further. The workshops will provide guidan ce to the students to place their newly gained technical skills in a design context. Individual and group tutorials will provide guidance for their self-study and research. An online repository will provide additional reading materials for the students, for self-study and reflection. |
