About us

DMSI aims to understand the role of digital media across economic, social, political and cultural domains, with a view to leveraging the benefits and mitigating the risks for academia and policy, industry and civil society stakeholders. In doing so, DMSI addresses key issues in society today, including increasing levels of inequality, deprivation and social/political unrest, and environmental issues such as sustainability and climate change.

To achieve these goals, researchers across disciplines are working together to develop new approaches for understanding the impact of digital media on society. The University of Liverpool is the first Higher Education (HE) institution to integrate the humanities and social sciences with computer science and science disciplines, as well as international HE institutions and industry partners, to understand digital media and its impact on society.

DMSI is training the next of generation of researchers so they are prepared to meet the interdisciplinary challenges of studying digital media and its impact on society.
