Wil Hardman & Rob Playfair on online assessments for listening and speaking

The move to online teaching has required departments across the university to rethink their approach to assessment. On 20 November 2020, Wil Hardman and Rob Playfair raised some challenging questions around what it is we should be testing, test security and how to ensure that the test provides students with an adequate opportunity to demonstrate their language ability. With these issues in mind, they talked about two different approaches they have used to assess speaking and listening on the English Language Centre’s pre-sessional English course.
