Event: Authentic Grammar? With Dr Hitomi Masuhara

Date: 5th December 2018

Venue: Rendall Building, University of Liverpool

Speaker: Dr Hitomi Masuhara, Department of English, University of Liverpool

Organiser: Dr Ulrike Bavendiek

Dr Hitomi Masuhara explored new avenues into the teaching of grammar in her talk ‘Authentic Grammar’.

Having noted that MA TESOL students from overseas often want to learn what they call ‘authentic grammar’, she explored the idea, comparing it to the ‘pedagogic grammar’ that traditionally provides the structure of language syllabi, curricula and coursebooks.

The talk ended with a lively demonstration of ideas and materials for authentic grammar in the classroom, designed to help learners improve their accuracy in theoretically sound and enjoyable ways.
