Kerry Parker (Deliveroo) sharing her insights on her career in data science with the LIV.INNO students.

Kerry Parker, a data scientist at Deliveroo, shared her insights on her career in data science at a recent LIV.INNO Data Science Forum. Kerry discussed her journey from her studies in physics to her current role at Deliveroo, where she uses her skills to help the company improve its operations and customer experience.

Kerry studied Chemical Physics at the University of Sheffield, where she also completed a PhD in Particle Physics. After spending a year as a Postdoctoral Researcher at DESY, she joined IQBlade, a B2B Intelligence Platform, based at Liverpool Science Park. At IQBlade, she worked in a data role and was immersed in the technology industry as a data scientist. During this time, she and her colleague organised a meetup group, TechNomads, to learn and connect with the local data science community. After that, she worked as a Data Scientist at Very before joining Deliveroo in 2021.

At the LIV.INNO Data Forum, Kerry began her talk by explaining her educational and career background and how she applied her PhD and Postdoc skills as a Physicist to data science in an industry setting. She then outlined the job roles in data science and the different types of projects that a data scientist will have the opportunity to work on in a company. The final part of her talk focused on providing students with some tips on how to successfully apply for data science related jobs, prepare for interviews, and use online resources.

Kerry’s talk was well-received by the LIV.INNO students, who asked her many questions about her career and her work at Deliveroo. Her insights into the field of data science were informative and inspiring, and she left the audience with a better understanding of what it takes to be a successful data scientist.
