New LIV.INNO PhD projects now available for a 2023 start

Twelve new PhD projects are now open for applications for students who would like to join the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University as part of the LIV.INNO Data Intensive Science Centre for Doctoral Training. The projects cover the three work packages of Monte Carlo and High Performance Computing (WP1), Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (WP2) and Data Analysis (WP3) and cover subjects such astrophysics, accelerator physics, particle physics, nuclear physics and mathematics.

These PhDs are fully funded, half by STFC who are funding the LIV.INNO centre and half by another partner. They are funded for 48 months and include extensive training in data science and the subject of the PhD as well as skills training in areas such as project management, presentation skills and other skills will be useful to students throughout their careers. Skills schools in specific areas of industry and outreach events are also planned.

Students must undertake a 6-month placement with an industrial partner as part of their PhD. This gives the student an excellent opportunity to apply their data science skills to real world challenges, whilst gaining knowledge and experience of working outside of academia. There are already many industrial partners in the LIV.INNO project and they are a vital part of its success.

Details of how to apply can be found within each of the project descriptions on the LIV.INNO website. Application deadlines vary within the months of January and February. If you have any questions about a particular project, please contact the project supervisor listed.
