Partner institutions

If you're joining the University from one of our partner institutions around the world, you'll find our English language requirements are tailored to each partner. You can check the requirements below for the partner institution where you're studying.

There are exceptions for some courses and progression requirements are subject to change. You should consult your offer letter to confirm your progression requirements. 

Please note, some of the English language examinations offered by our partner institutions are only valid for two years from graduation. It's important to check that your award will continue to be valid on the start date of your course.

Progression to undergraduate courses

Partner English language progression requirements
University of Liverpool International College (UoLIC) and other Kaplan international colleges

Typically 60-65% overall, with a minimum of 55% in each component of your Foundation Certificate. The overall score required varies depending on your intended degree. Some courses require 70% overall, with a minimum of 65% in each component. 

If you intend to study Medicine or Dentistry, you'll require IELTS 7.0 overall, with no component less than 7.0.

These requirements apply for progression from Foundation Certificates at UoLIC and other Kaplan international colleges.
HELP University College, Malaysia SPM 1119 English Grade C or above, or SPM English CEFR B2 with at least B2 in each element, or IELTS 6.5 overall with no component less than 5.5.
Brickfields Asia College, Malaysia SPM 1119 English Grade C or above, or SPM English CEFR B2 with at least B2 in each element, or IELTS 6.5 overall with no component less than 5.5.
Taylor's University College, Malaysia SPM 1119 English Grade C or above, or SPM English CEFR B2 with at least B2 in each element, or IELTS 6.5 overall with no component less than 5.5.
Advance Tertiary College, Malaysia SPM 1119 English Grade C or above, or SPM English CEFR B2 with at least B2 in each element, or IELTS 6.5 overall with no component less than 5.5.
NCUK Minimum grade B or grade C overall in your International Foundation Year, Foundation Certificate or International Diploma. The minimum overall grade required varies depending on your intended degree. A minimum grade of D, equivalent to B2, is required in each component. 
Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University (XJTLU) Successful completion of the first two years of a degree programme at XJTLU.
International Medical University (IMU)

One of:

  • IELTS 7.0 overall, with no component less than 7.0
  • TOEFL, minimum 100 overall, with no component less than 22, and at least 24 in Speaking.

Progression to master's courses

Typically 65% overall, with a minimum of 60% in each component of your Pre-Master's. Some courses will accept 65% overall with a minimum of 55% in each component.

Please consult your Kaplan offer letter to confirm your individual progression requirements from your Pre-Master's course. 
NCUK

Typically minimum grade B overall, with a minimum of grade C in each component, for your English for Academic Purposes module from the NCUK Graduate Diploma or Pre-Master's.

Please note, MA Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and MA Applied Linguistics and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages require grade A overall, with a minimum of grade B in each component.
Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University (XJTLU)  Successful completion of your XJTLU/University of Liverpool degree, taught in English medium.
