About

Personal Statement

Dr. Louise Oni has always had a love for science. She graduated as a medical doctor (MBChB) from the University of Liverpool in 2003. Over the years, she has developed an interest in paediatric immune mediated renal diseases following completion of a PhD based on childhood lupus nephritis in 2013. She works clinically as a Paediatric Nephrology Consultant in the Clinical Academic Department of Paediatric Nephrology, Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust Hospital, Liverpool. She is employed by the University as a member of the Department of Women's and Children's Health, Institute of Life course and medical sciences. She leads the renal inflammatory workstream with a translational research group and she is the chief investigator of the IgA vasculitis study. She has a particular interest in childhood lupus nephritis and Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (previously known as Henoch Schonlein Purpura). She is currently working on standardising the care for these conditions as a foundation for future clinical trials and interrogating the scientific origins of the renal inflammation. She works in close partnership with the Clinical Academic Department of Paediatric Rheumatology and she is a member of the Experimental Arthritis Treatment Centre for children (EATC4C) group. She collaborates with others across the city, country and internationally.

Dr. Oni has won prizes for delivering presentations and has an active role in teaching. In 2018, she was awarded a Health Education Award (HEA) Fellowship to acknowledge her high teaching standards and she continues to engage in effective continuing professional development (CPD).
