Historically, there has been very little focus on paediatric clinical pharmacology, and there are still a lot of unknowns with regard to optimally delivering medicines to children. As one of only 6 trained paediatric clinical pharmacologists in the country, and the only one working in either a paediatric early phase trials unit (NIHR Alder Hey Clinical Research Facility) or pharmacogenomics, I am working to improve the understanding of how children handle medicines and the risks they may pose in certain populations.
