Department of Women's and Children's Health

About the department

The Department of Women’s and Children’s Health is internationally renowned for its research and has specialist groups covering obstetrics, gynaecology, neonatology and medical and surgical paediatrics.

Women’s Health is based in Liverpool Women’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Children’s Health in purpose built accommodation at the Royal Liverpool Children’s Hospital at Alder Hey. These are the largest women’s and children’s hospitals in Europe, giving us superb facilities.

Our strong translational research programme is supported by collaborations with Biological Sciences, the Department of Physiology and close links with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and the Liverpool Wellcome Tropical Centre in Blantyre, Malawi.

In the last decade, we have received around £32 million in external research grants.
