About the department
The Department of Biostatistics carries out methodological and applied research, as well as teaching. Our people are engaged in a broad range of collaborative projects.
Main research areas are survival analysis, joint modelling of longitudinal and survival data, clinical trials methodology, statistical pharmacogenetics, multivariate data analysis, meta-analysis, quality of life data analysis, stereology and performance monitoring.
We receive funding from MRC, DoH, NIHR, CRUK, ARUK, EDCTP, Wellcome and a number of charities.
The Department collaborates with University and NHS partners. Work includes DoH-funded pharmacogenetics research, UKCRN clinical trials activity, NIHR Biomedical Research Unit and Programme Grants, RDS North West and local NHS Trust Service Level Agreements.
Clinical trial methodology research
Staff are active in the MRC North West Hub for Trial Methodology Research (NWHTMR).
This is a collaboration with the Universities of Lancaster and Bangor, bringing together expertise in medical statistics, clinical trial methodology, pharmacoeconomics, sociology and clinical psychology.
