Why did you choose to study the MArch at the University of Liverpool?
After completing my undergraduate degree here I was eager to return! I really enjoyed the BA course and wanted to stay at the school as I had built good relationships with other students and staff. It was lovely to come back and feel like I had never left.
What do you enjoy most about the course, and why?
I love the variety that architecture offers – doing both creative and academic modules means every day is different. In the MArch we have a lot of freedom within the course which is great as we can pursue our own personal interests. For example, in the fourth year we get to choose our own essay topics and in fifth year we direct our dissertations and thesis design projects.
How the facilities and staff help you with your studies?
All of the members of staff are happy to help! Our technicians provide so much support when it comes to model making. We have dedicated studio space and access to a variety of facilities: an arts material store, a print media design suite, a laser cutting suite and workshops.
What extra-or co-curricular activities do you take part in, and how do these affect your student experience?
Alongside the course I am a School of the Arts ambassador, so I help out at Architecture Selection Workshops and Applicant Discovery Days. These days are always fun working alongside friends and sharing our experience of the school.
I am also president of ASoc, the university’s Architecture society. We organise monthly socials and plan the Christmas and summer balls! Running the society this year has been a massive highlight for me – it’s something I’ve been involved in since my very first year here. Check out our Instagram for more (@uol_asoc).
What are your ambitions for the future and how will your experiences of postgraduate study help you in your future career?
My career goal is to become a fully qualified architect. Studying both the BA and MArch here has given me so many opportunities in and outside of the courses. I am really looking forward to my final year and returning to practice.
What advice would you give to anyone considering postgraduate study at Liverpool?
Do it! Liverpool is such an amazing city to study in, and the university has so much to offer.
