Alongside his academic career he ran a successful architectural practice and in 1960 along with Dewi-Prys Thomas he designed a house - 'Cedarwood' in Woolton, Liverpool - which was named 'House of the Year' by the Women's Journal. Another house in Woolton, 'The Grey Bungalow' was built along with houses around the country including Broadstairs Kent; Ham, Richmond-upon-Thames; Enfield and Heswall. He also designed the University of Liverpool’s Sports Pavilion at Wyncote in 1963, which received a Civic Trust award. In 1975 he was elected as chairman of the North West Regional Council of the RIBA. Gerald Beech died in 2013.
