Entry requirements

You'll need a 2:1 or first class or equivalent first degree in a relevant discipline, such as, medicine, psychology or sociology.

Your research can be in any area that matches our current research interest although we will consider applications in other areas of medical education research subject to finding suitably qualified supervisors from within the School. All research will need ethical approval before work commences.

Studying for a research degree is demanding. Studying for a research degree part time whist holding down a professional job is doubly demanding. You will therefore also need high level organisation skills, and a demonstrable commitment to the work involved. Competence in written and oral communication skills is also required.

English Language Requirements

All applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language and are required to provide evidence of this. Qualifications accepted by the University can be found on our International webpages. Please see for English Language requirements specific to your country.

If you meet the academic requirements of the course but do not have the required level of English Language, it is possible for you to come and study at the University on one of our Pre-sessional EAP programmes.  Please see the English Language Centre website for further information about these programmes;
