Department of Psychological Sciences


Researchers in Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology and Psychiatry are pursuing internationally leading programmes in Mental Health in Context, Addiction, Appetite and Obesity and the Psychology of Healthcare.

Within Forensic Psychology the Department is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for the application of psychology to security and conflict.

Experimental researchers address some of the most critical issues facing society today by advanced understanding of key brain mechanisms and critical psychological processes through working with key partners and modelling behaviour in real work scenarios. Key research includes Addiction, Appetite and Obesity, Language, Cognition and Expertise, Mental Health in Context and Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience.

Applied researchers investigate key questions in healthcare, security and industry translating research outcomes in practice in key Departmental research areas including Appetite and Obesity, Forensic and Investigative Psychology, Mental Health in Context, and the Psychology of Healthcare.
