In partnership with General Practitioners and specialists from Shanghai

The Department of Health Services within the Institute of Psychology, Health and Society works with international partners across the world to widen the impact of its world-class research.

A collaboration with China has enabled two delegations of senior GPs, public health specialists, directors and leaders from Jing’an Health Bureau in Shanghai, to visit the University. The delegations took part in a specially tailored programme, run alongside our Primary Care and Public Health department, and colleagues in the NHS.

The programme allows our Chinese partners to gain firsthand experience of UK medical and public health systems, so that they can adapt these ideas in Shanghai. The groups observed GPs surgeries to better understand primary care services and also learned about the management of GPs.

After the first successful project, a second postgraduate course in Primary Care and Public Health was expanded and built on the outcomes of the first programme, and this exchange is now expected to become a regular feature of postgraduate education.
