I am a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Liverpool (Prof Jay Hinton's lab), using functional genomics to investigate the evolution and pathogenesis of invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella (iNTS), a major cause of bloodstream infections in sub-Saharan Africa.

My journey in science began with a BSc Hons in Microbiology from the University of Glasgow, where I developed a strong foundation in microbial genetics and infectious diseases. I further pursued my passion for microbiology by obtaining a PhD from the University of Glasgow (Prof José Penadés lab). My PhD work focussed on the genetic mechanisms behind bacteriophage lysis-lysogeny decisions and viral communication, providing novel insights into phage-host interactions in Bacillus subtilis.

Currently, I am working at the University of Liverpool on a Wellcome Trust project, to study the genetics of invasive non-Typhoidal Salmonella (iNTS). I am employing advanced high-throughput techniques including RB-TnSeq and BarSeq to dissect the genetic mechanisms of iNTS infection. This research is crucial as iNTS is a major causative agent of bloodstream infections across Sub-Saharan Africa, posing significant health challenges. Through my work, I aim to contribute to the development of strategies to combat this pathogen and improve public health outcomes.
