Mrs Louise Ellinson BA (Hons), PGCE

Choral Director Music

    About

    Personal Statement

Louise is a conductor, singer and violinist, with over twenty years’ performance experience as a soloist and choral singer. Her initial conducting experience came from her decade as a teacher in secondary and primary schools, and she then went on to study with Manvinder Rattan and a number of other distinguished tutors on the Sing For Pleasure Conductor Training Programme. After leaving teaching to pursue a full-time career in conducting Louise has built up a portfolio of professional conducting experience, while retaining her links with children's music education.

Alongside the Staff & Community and Chamber Choirs at the University, Louise is part of the Halle's Workplace Choir conducting team, and is Musical Director of the Weaver Valley WI Group Choir, an 80-strong ladies’ choir. She set up and runs the Vocal Leadership placement as part of the SOTA300 module, and the associated 'Singtastic!' programme with local primary schools. She also tutors for Sing for Pleasure at their annual Summer School and Children's Singing Week.

As a soloist Louise regularly sings for choral societies and orchestras and in recitals across the North West, at venues including Liverpool’s beautiful St George’s Hall. She retains a keen interest in music education and the role of singing in schools and communities, and the associated areas of vocal pedagogy and musicianship.
