I undertake research and develop software for macromolecular crystallography, and am the lead develop of the AMPLE software package.
After completing an MChem at Sheffield I spent a few years working in journalism and publishing, before leaving to pursue a career in music. I then went back into academia and worked at Daresbury Laboratory for several years developing software around Quantum Chemistry and providing support the the UK national supercomputer. On leaving Daresbury, I undertook a PhD at the interface of Macromolecular Crystallography, Bioinformatics and Molecular Modelling with Daniel Rigden and have continued working part-time with Dan since graduating.
I also started the urban farming company Farm Urban (www.farmurban.co.uk), whilst carrying out my PhD and spend half of my time working for the company. The company collaborates closely with the university and we have two PhD students shared with the University.
