I am a Specialist Research Technician in the Structural Biology department within IIB, focusing mainly on protein production and purification for structural biology techniques. I support the groups’ research scientists and maintain the specialist equipment such as purification chromatography systems and X-ray crystallography detectors as well as carrying out biochemical and biophysical assays for specific projects when required.
I received my undergraduate degree in Medical Molecular Biology at the University of Wales, Cardiff, in 2001 before completing a PhD in Cancer Immunotherapy at the School of Cancer Sciences at the University of Birmingham in 2006. I then went on to a post-doctoral research position at the University of Nottingham, School of Biosciences, before moving back to Birmingham to work for a small pharmaceutical company researching anti-cancer vaccines. I then continued my research discovering new drugs for different types of cancer working as a Higher Scientific Officer at the Institute of Cancer Research in London before joining the IIB in February 2016.
