The Europe and the World Centre (EWC) of the University of Liverpool will host Beirut –based visiting scholar Dr Karim Eid-Sabbagh from 5-9 March 2018.

During his visit, Dr Karim Eid-Sabbagh will show his documentary film on water, politics and power in Lebanon and contribute to teaching and discussions on this topic across the university.

Dr Eid-Sabbagh is a researcher and project administrator for the London School of Economics. He is a member of Thimar, a research collective on agriculture environment and labour, and a founder of Triangle Consulting.

On Wednesday 7 March 2018 the EWC will screen “We made every living thing from Water”, a film on water, politics and protest in Lebanon by Dr Eid-Sabbagh and independent journalist Paul Cochrane. The documentary tackles the explosive political impact of environmental degradation in Lebanon. It was filmed in the wake of the July 2015 trash crisis, when Beirut’s waste remained uncollected for weeks. Governmental disregard for ecological concerns mobilised the public to protect a common resource.

The film will be followed by a question and answer session with Dr Eid-Sabbagh. To register for this free event, please click here.
