Website
A combined venture of the universities of Liverpool and Lancaster,
the Health Protection Agency and the Veterinary Laboratories
Agency. It is a hub for collaborative research across the UK and
further afield. It brings together medical and veterinary scientists,
microbiologists, ecologists, epidemiologists, statisticians,
economists and social scientists to undertake research into
zoonotic infections. The Centre is a catalyst for national and
international collaborations, taking multidisciplinary and
multi-institutional approaches to zoonosis research.

Improves the coordination, speed and quality of randomised
controlled trials and other well designed studies of medicines for
children and adolescents, including those for prevention,
diagnosis and treatment. The Centre is led by a consortium
comprising the University of Liverpool, Liverpool Women’s Hospital
NHS Foundation Trust, Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust,
Imperial College London, National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit
(
NPEU; University of Oxford), and the National Children’s Bureau.
Northwest Laser Engineering
Consortium

Materials, Advanced Design & Manufacturing
Website
A strategic alliance between the universities of Liverpool and
Manchester. At the forefront of laser applications in micro- and
nanotechnology, it draws on expertise from both universities to
research and develop laser capabilities for the benefit of industry in
the North West.
Northwest Perception Action Network

Website
A research consortium, lead by members of the universities of
Liverpool, Manchester and Lancaster. Its purpose is to promote
collaborative projects in the area of action and perception, both
between the core member universities and between academic,
clinical, and industrial partners. It endeavours to translate basic
behavioural and neuroscience research into clinically-relevant
research and link it to human factors in industrial settings.

This centre for excellence in microscopy provides regional
SMEs access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, together with
experienced analysts and material scientists. Its aim is to improve
their productivity and competitiveness by linking them to
technology and expertise that will improve product and process
design. Electron microscopy uses a focused beam of electrons in
place of light, enabling samples to be magnified up to around
20
million times actual size without loss of definition. It has
commercial applications across a range of sectors, including
advanced manufacturing, bio-sciences, medical equipment
manufacture, and environmental and energy technologies.
