Works to understand the impacts that reading can have on the
health and wellbeing of global communities. Working with the
national charity The Reader Organisation, experts are providing
research evidence to show the value of community reading-
groups, to inform healthcare policy, and to help the medical
profession explore treatments that can be related to the
individual patient.
Centre for Medieval &
Renaissance Studies

A hub for interdisciplinary study and research of the Middle Ages
and the Renaissance in Europe, the Near East and Africa from c.300
to c.1700. The Centre involves scholars from several disciplines
(
eg archaeology, classics, English language and literature, French
language and literature, Hispanic studies, history) along with
academic institutions and heritage organisations across the North
West of England. The Centre provides expertise for individuals and
organisations (eg museums, government bodies, and the media).
Centre for the Study of
International Slavery

Aims to contribute to the understanding of slavery and its legacies
and to foster research and debate in this field. Founded as a
partnership between the University of Liverpool and National
Museums Liverpool, the Centre works together with other universities
and organisations to develop scholarly and public activities related
to slavery in its historical and contemporary manifestations.

both poetry and science flourish. The Centre is externally funded

Child Language Study Centre

Focuses on how children learn their first language, with an
emphasis on how children acquire the combinatory rules
(
grammar) of their language. The Centre studies many different
aspects of language acquisition including how much young
children understand about the language they hear around them,
why children produce errors in their early speech, and when
children, like adults, can judge sentences to be grammatical
or ungrammatical.
