Personal Statement

I am a clinician researcher with expertise in inflammatory eye disease (uveitis), infectious retinal disease, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy. My research in malarial retinopathy and post-Ebola Syndrome has led to seminal discoveries in the pathogenesis of these conditions. In global health I am also focused on addressing the increasing burden of diabetes retinopathy in Africa.
I am a consultant ophthalmologist at St Paul's Eye Unit, Royal Liverpool University Hospital and lead clinician for AMD and uveitis. I was a committee member developing the NICE Clinical Guidelines for AMD and am currently on the Scientific Committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
