Kyle completed his BSc (honours) in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Ulster in Jordanstown, Northern Ireland. Following his degree he undertook a PhD in Biomaterials at the University of Liverpool. The title of his thesis was "Microplasma Technology for Influencing Cell-Surface Interactions". After his PhD, Kyle started a research associate position in the University of Ulster in conjunction with an industrial partner, Surf-Spec Ltd., based in surface modification using atmospheric pressure plasmas. His current research is based in the development of biomaterials for ocular surface regeneration and in-vitro stem cell expansion for transplantation.
