Ln silylamide complexes

These complexes are all extremely moisture sensitive and must be prepared under rigorously anhydrous conditions.

The silylamide ligand [N(SiMe3)2]- is sterically very demanding and so low coordination numbers can be achieved, even with the large Ln ions.

[Er{N(SiMe3)2}3]   Note the pyramidal structure. The structures of [An{N(SiMe3)2}3] are analogous

[Sm{N(SiMe3)2}2(thf)2] Sm2+ is even larger than Sm3+ and so just two silylamide ligands are insufficient to fill the coordination sphere. Two thf ligands are also bonded.
