Point of Ayr to Caernarfon with coal
Captain W Jones, 3 crew.
27 January 1901, stranded and broke up.

The schooner Thomas taking coal from Point of Ayr to Caernarfon broke from her anchors in Mostyn Deep at 6:30 in the evening and was driven high and dry on South Salisbury Bank, near Greefield Gut.

[from Birkenhead News - Saturday 02 February 1901]: Early on Monday morning the schooner Thomas, of Carnarvon, laden with coals, was observed to be ashore on the Salisbury Bank. The lifeboat authorities did not launch their boat as soon as they saw the vessel, as they were under the impression that the Point of Air boat, being to windward, would easily reach the distressed vessel first. Telegraphic communication between the two stations was interrupted, so after waiting some time, and finding there was no sign of the Point of Air boat being launched, the Hilbre boat was sent away. On reaching the schooner it was found that the crew of three men had been taken off in a large punt by the crew of a vessel anchored in the neighbourhood, who exposed themselves to considerable risk, and who informed the lifeboat coxswain that they would not have gone out had they known the lifeboat was coming. The schooner remains on the bank.
