Myosotis 1907

The MYOSOTIS was a 39nt wooden yawl built in 1885. At time of loss, 14 November 1907, the vessel was owned by John Bethel of Hoylake and was fishing out of Liverpool [as LL 134] under the command of C. Davis. The yawl stranded abreast of Talacre after being caught in a north-northeasterly force 8 gale.

The Point of Ayr Lifeboat report [note slightly different date]: On November 17 1907, launched 8:10pm to smack Myosotis of Liverpool - earlier run aground off Prestatyn. Her crew of 3 hoped to refloat the vessel at high water, but she had sunk so far into the sand that, at high water, she was almost completely submerged. The 3 men were rescued by the lifeboat and landed safely at 10:30pm.

Helen and Ernest 1918

The HELEN AND ERNEST was a 38nt wooden ketch built at Cowes in 1876 and registered at Wexford, ON 74444. At time of loss, 15 October 1918, the vessel was on passage from Runcorn to Howth with a cargo of salt. She was owned by John Ellis of Port Dinorwic. The ketch stranded at the Point of Ayr and is listed in the BOT Wreck Return. I have found no newspaper report of this loss. She is no longer listed in MNL after 1918.

Væringer 1904

The VÆRINGER was a 233nt wooden brig of Norwegian registry built in 1876. At time of loss on 29 July 1904, the vessel was owned by A Høgh of Brevig. The brig was bringing pit props from Brevig to the Point of Ayr under the command of L Høgh with a crew total of 7. The vessel became stranded at Point of Ayr.

VAERINGER. - Point of Ayr. July 31 - The master of the brig Vaeringer, of and from Brevig, with mining timber, aground on the North Bank, reports that the vessel fills with the tide. All the butts and seams are open, and the vessel, which is badly strained on the port side, is in a dangerous position.
