From Fflint and Rhyl newspapers:

PRESTATYN. A SMACK AGROUND - On Sunday morning last [1 December 1883], the smack "Mona", of Bangor (Richard Williams, master), with a cargo of pig iron from Glasgow to the River Dee, grounded on the West Hoyle (position known as No. 136 per chart). The Point of Ayr lifeboat (Mr. Ben. Evans, coxswain), was put out, but it appeared that the crew of the distressed vessel (three in number) had taken to their boat and landed about 9 a.m. The unfortunate fellows proceeded to Bangor by the 10.40 train from Prestatyn. The disaster is attributed to the inability of the master to see the lights, and his consequent loss of bearings.
The vessel subsequently became a wreck.
